Kos Kardamena, Cap Helona, AntimachiaThe road to Kardamena is quite busy, as it's the only one linking east and west. Close to an amazingly clear little lake the road branches off due south. Then follows a very steep passage behind the village of Pyli. Kardamena itself is a tourist stronghold. Rows of pubs, bars, taverns and souvenir shops overlook the narrow beachline, which is usually cramped with tourists. Heading west from Kardamena things become considerably more relaxed. Cap Helona offers a variety of attractive swimming beaches, some sandy, some pebbly or a mixture of both. As a general rule, beaches are more untouched the further west one travels. Antimachia, which has retained its character and grown naturally over the years, is not far from the airport. Despite this proximity, the place seems to have „missed out“ in terms of large scale tourist development. Many of Antimachia's residents live off agriculture and, despite its charmingly authentic taverns, few tourists are ever found here. |
