Kos GeographyKos is the second largest island of the Dodecanese and, though it may not enjoy the fame of Rhodos, has a wide array of activities to offer its visitors. Situated off the western coast of Asia Minor, the island extends over some 43km from east to west and has a width ranging from 1,5 to 10 km; the highest peak is 846m above sea-level. Coastlines are shallow in the North and steep in the South. The City of Kos has been afflicted -and destroyed- repeatedly by earthquakes, the most recent of which took place in 1933. Kos has a population of approximately 17,000, a humble figure considering the vast numbers of visitors who spend their holidays on the island each year. Kos is especially popular amongst British, German and Scandinavian tourists. |
