The landscape in the interior is picturesque and diverse. Fertile planes alternate with rugged rocky areas, all the while displaying an interesting flora and fauna. Many of the churches in the island's interior harbour magnificent examples of traditional iconostasis.

If you need a break from the relentless midday sun, allow yourself to be charmed by the typically Greek kafenions, where the locals meet on a daily basis to exchange the latest news and play Tavli.

Needless to say that ordering a Turkish mocca is hardly recommendable on Kos. The island's tense relationship with the neighbouring Turkey is still very much prevalent amongst the locals.

The copper-red, delicious lemonade made of cinammon and spring water, is one of the specialties you really shouldnt miss.
